Some caregivers choose to formally identify with Guardians of the Cats as Commissioned Guardians. Commissioning recognizes your caregiving as part of a faith-based ministry and provides access to ministry resources, advocacy tools, official documentation, and future training designed specifically for those serving homeless cats.
THE MEANING OF COMMISSIONING
When caregiving becomes ministry
You do not need a Commission to make your compassion meaningful.
Commissioning is for the caregiver who recognizes something deeper in the work they already do — that feeding the hungry, protecting the vulnerable, tending the sick, and standing beside the forgotten have become part of their spiritual practice.
For some caregivers, this work is more than volunteerism.
A bowl placed every evening can become an act of devotion. Driving across town to trap a frightened cat for surgery can become an act of stewardship. Sitting beside a sick animal no one else claimed can become an act of mercy. Returning tomorrow, and the day after that, can become a way of living what you believe.
A Commissioned Guardian chooses to formally carry that service through Guardians of the Cats as part of a faith-based ministry.
The Commission does not create the calling.
It gives the calling a name and a home.
Commissioning records your relationship with the ministry, gives you a permanent Commission Number, and entrusts you with the standards, correspondence, documentation, and resources created to help you carry that service with compassion, responsibility, and integrity.
It is not a higher level of worth, a premium membership, or legal authority.
It is a formal spiritual commitment to carry the work you already do within the life and standards of the ministry.
Recognition
Your calling is formally recognized. Commissioning acknowledges that you understand your caregiving as part of your spiritual life and ministry service.
Responsibility
You carry the ministry's name. Commissioned Guardians agree to standards of truthful documentation, calm communication, responsible stewardship, and respectful use of ministry resources.
Support
You do not carry it alone. Your Commission connects you to ministry guidance, correspondence, documentation tools, community support, and resources created for difficult situations caregivers may face.

MINISTRY CORRESPONDENCE
Ministry correspondence for real situations
Community cat caregiving can bring unexpected conversations, misunderstandings, property concerns, official notices, and sometimes serious conflict. Commissioned Guardians have access to a complete library of ministry correspondence designed around the situations caregivers actually face.
Rather than starting from a blank page, Guardians can use approved ministry wording, personalized with the factual details of their situation and generated as professional Guardians of the Cats correspondence.

Compassion practiced with wisdom, order, and respect.
Guardians of the Cats believes compassionate caregiving should protect vulnerable cats while supporting peaceful coexistence within the communities where they live.
A Guardian’s care should reduce suffering, reduce unnecessary conflict, and reflect the dignity and responsibility of the ministry they represent.
THE MINISTRY STANDARDS
Care Responsibly
Provide food and care consistently and thoughtfully. Keep feeding areas tidy and discreet when possible, remove excess food and waste, and use practices that support the cats without creating unnecessary disruption for others.
Provide Shelter With Care
When providing outdoor shelter, choose safe, weather-appropriate options and place them thoughtfully. Shelters should protect cats without blocking access, creating hazards, or unnecessarily increasing conflict with residents or property staff.
Support Humane Stabilization
When feasible, support TNR and other humane efforts that create long-term stability. Work with local TNR groups or rescues when available, pay attention to vulnerable cats, and maintain basic awareness of the cats and their needs.
Lead With Calm and Respect
Communicate with dignity, seek de-escalation first, and look for practical solutions when concerns arise. A Guardian’s presence should bring calm rather than conflict. When disagreements cannot be resolved peacefully, document the situation rather than escalating it.
Respect Boundaries and Protect Safety
Guardianship is stewardship, not defiance. Respect property boundaries, obtain permission where appropriate, and never use Guardianship as justification for trespassing or confrontation. When a situation becomes threatening, prioritize safety, document what occurred, and seek appropriate support.
OUR GUIDING PRINCIPLE

And coexistence is possible when care is offered with wisdom and dignity.
Commissioned Guardians carry these principles into their caregiving, their community relationships, and their use of official Guardians of the Cats ministry resources.
RESPONSIBLE USE
Using Ministry Tools
Official Guardians of the Cats ministry tools are provided to help Commissioned Guardians communicate clearly, document faithfully, and approach difficult situations with calm, dignity, and respect.
These resources support your caregiving. They are not tools for intimidation, retaliation, or escalation.
USE APPROVED MINISTRY WORDING
Ministry letters use approved Guardians of the Cats wording so that official correspondence remains consistent with the values and voice of the ministry. Guardians personalize the designated fields with their own information and the factual details of their situation rather than rewriting the core ministry language.
DOCUMENT WHAT HAPPENED — NOT WHAT YOU ASSUME
Letters, Incident Reports, Interaction Reports, and Guardian Incident Logs should be truthful and accurate to the best of the Guardian's knowledge. Record facts such as dates, times, what was said or done, who was present, and available evidence. Avoid exaggeration, speculation, or language intended to punish another person.
SEEK RESOLUTION BEFORE ESCALATION
Ministry tools are intended to support peaceful communication, appropriate boundaries, thoughtful documentation, and practical resolution. A Commission should never be used to threaten, shame, intimidate, or claim authority over another person.
RESPECT LAW, PROPERTY, AND SAFETY
Commissioned Guardians remain responsible for respecting property boundaries, applicable laws, and lawful directions from appropriate authorities while carrying out their caregiving with compassion and integrity. When a situation becomes hostile or unsafe, prioritize safety, step away when possible, document what occurred, and seek appropriate support rather than continuing a confrontation.
Your Commission carries the name of the ministry. Use it with compassion, truthfulness, restraint, and care.
